Episodic headaches in children.
In children and adolescents with headaches, which are observed in the practice of emergency care, as in adults, their main causes were infections, injuries or primary headaches.
According to a study of emergency care for children who suffer from headaches of non-traumatic etiology, the majority of patients are diagnosed with primary headaches, of whom 10% had migraines. In 91% of patients suffering from secondary headaches, acute viral and respiratory infections were detected.
Pathological conditions, including neurological disorders (epilepsy, vestibular neuritis, disruption of the functioning of shunts, cerebrovascular disease, meningitis and neoplasms), carbon monoxide poisoning and arterial hypertension, were diagnosed in only 4% of patients. In all patients suffering from neurological disorders, the examination revealed pathological symptoms (in particular, loss of consciousness or focal neurological symptoms).
